A&E features story on haunted Bedford Tavern

A historic business in Bedford County is gaining national attention from A&E Network.

It's now a hotel and restaurant, but the Bedford Tavern is proving to people that there's much more than meets the eye.

The town is rich in history itself, but the Tavern has a number of its own spooky memories.

Some of the workers are sharing their own encounters with A&E.

"Anybody can come in here. Anybody's got a chance to experience one of these things, and many dozens of people have done it," owner Jeff Rinscheid said.

It's a local staple in town. The Bedford Tavern is being featured in a show in A&E's fall lineup called My Ghost Story.

The tavern was picked in March to be on the show because of the unexplained encounters workers and customers have experienced.

"We have photos, videos, audio recordings, as well as several dozen anecdotes… things that have transpired here," Rinscheid explained.

"We're here to try and talk to them and not recreate, but just see what kind of shots we can get to enhance their story," Director of Photography Lincoln Wiese said.

The owner said the tavern is rich in history. It dates back to the 1820s and held everything from a pharmacy to a liquor store.

"They finally put a restaurant in downstairs to serve mostly local truckers, and things like that, and it's been a restaurant for the last 60 or 70 years," Rinscheid said.

"It's more of a history lesson each story. It's a ghost story, or it's some kind of a tale of a spirit or some apparition but we're also usually in a historic town," Wiese said.

It's not just the owner who will be walking away with a story to tell, but the production crew and customers who will be left wondering.

"Certainly there will be the people interested in the paranormal. There will be the people that hate the idea of the paranormal that want to come in and argue about whether it really happened or not. People want to find out, did we just make this all up for TV… well, no," Rinscheid said.

"And I just love to see that passion and I love to be able to be there to help them recreate that," Wiese said.

The photographer finished shooting Tuesday night.

The episode is expected to air in the fall on the Biography Channel.

Soldiers killed in Vietnam to be honored

One in 10 Americans that served in Vietnam was a casualty.

In an effort to remember veterans who served for our country, a memorial has been planned by the Mt. Zion Historical Society in Elk County.

A new memorial plaque will be dedicated for the following eight soldiers: Cpl. Jerome E. Bowers, Jr., Sgt. Larry W. Gardner, Pfc. Michael Gigliotti, Cpl. John P. Paropacic, Pfc. Jerome R. Sain, Pfc. John E. Showers, Jr., Pfc. Robert G. Willow and Sgt. Paul E. Yonkie.

Jim Burke, president of the Mt. Zion Historical Society, told 6 News that nearly at the memorial park, there are memorial stones for about 500 veterans.

"It has been a combined effort. It is amazing what a community can do working together," said Burke.

On May 26, those eight veterans will be honored at the memorial park.

Burke said that more than 100 family members of the eight victims have RSVP'd, stating that they will be attending.

Burke said that it is important that these soldiers are remembered and honored for their services.

"They never got the recognition that they deserved. It is a great honor to work with the Bucktail Chapter No. 720 in remembering these veterans," said Burke.

Also that day, 43 other veterans will be honored with new pavers that will be laid in the ground at the memorial park.

"Many of these sacrifices go unnoticed and we should be aware of what these people have done for us to remember the liberties and government we have today," said Burke.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Memorial Park on May 26.

Muccio's Transportation will provide a bus shuttle service  from Ingram's Garage  parking lot at the top of Byrnedale Hill and from the Wesleyan Church parking lot in Weedville. Using this service is recommended as parking a Mt. Zion Historical Park may be limited.

The first shuttle pickup at 11:30 a.m. and the last pick up will be at 12:15 p.m.

Police: Man charged after luring young child into home and exposing himself

Officials in Jefferson County are reminding parents to keep a close eye on their children after an incident in Brookville.

Officer Vince Markle told 6 News that a mother reported that her five year old son was under the supervision of a friend. The friend told police that while watching the child, she noticed that he went out of the yard.

According to police reports the child was lured into the home of 69-year-old Allen Aaron along Sandy Way in Brookville. Investigators said that Aaron told the young boy to come in and see his "cool TV" and his cool "deer horns."

Police said that when the boy went inside Aaron took a picture of the child.

Reports indicate that Aaron also exposed himself to the young boy.

After being lured into the home twice and investigating the incidents, officer Markle charged Aaron.

Officials said since the young boy was OK and did not appear to be in danger, they did not arrest Aaron.

Aaron has been charged with luring a child into a home and indecent exposure to a minor.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 5.
